William Butt
 

 

William Butt is a Professor of cello at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and an established soloist and chamber musician. He has performed all the major concerti with leading orchestras and conductors, including the Irish premiere of the Walton Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin.

 

A distinguished exponent of the solo cello repertoire including the Bach Suites and the solo sonatas of Zoltán Kodály and Gyorgi Ligeti, William Butt has recently recorded the three Suites for solo cello by Benjamin Britten on Warner Classics/Apex, a highly acclaimed release which received a five star award in the Independent on Sunday. A performance of the complete Bach Suites recorded live by William Butt at St. John's Smith Square in London, was also released on the Warner Classics label in 2013.

 

William Butt has toured world-wide giving master-classes and recitals, and has broadcast extensively for the BBC, National Television in China, CBC (Canada) and RTE Radio and Television in Dublin.
